What should I expect from a beauty consultant at a dept store?

Im thinking of buying makeup for the first time! What should I expect from a beauty consultant at a dept store?
Chances are that they will color match you and show you how to apply certain types of makeup, while trying to sell you a good amount of their products. If you just buy the basics(foundation, concealer, blush/bronzer[try to get a two-in-one so you don't have to buy both...sometimes it's a multicolored powder product], liner, mascara, and lipgloss altho you can probably buy concealer and the blush/bronzer and the liner from a local drugstore brand like l'oreal or maybelline), you should be fine. Make sure you don't buy anything you're unsure you really want or need. If your complexion is clear, buy concealer from the drugstore for a lower price. Cheeks are already rosy? Skip the blush and just buy bronzer. Skin already tan? good for you, you can skip the bronzer and buy blush at the drugstore if you want!

Personally, I suggest buying a good foundation, liner, mascara, and lipgloss from the department store because the other stuff is just extra and not always needed.

Good luck! What should I expect from a beauty consultant at a dept store?

-A cert II in Retail (possibly)

and a Cert II In Makeup artistry..

Go to somewhere like MAC, Mecca not napolean or somewhere with mineral makeup- really try get mineral makeup..

Makeup with talc, and other crappy products like that clog your pores, and dont allow for your skin to breathe through the makeup.
Just like everyone else, they are all different. Some will make every product sound good, and try and talk you into buying it. Some may be a little pushy, some of them might rush you, but a good one should ask what you are looking for or what products interest you, and they should do color matches. Good Luck!!!

WOA (word of advice): That department store stuff isn't cheap, I think it would be very wise to just buy foundations, concealers, and/or blushes from them. You can find really good eyeliners, mascaras, eyeshadows, and glosses, at drugstores and beauty supply stores. But that's just my opinion. You would definately get more for your money.
they will push lots of stuff. only buy if YOU think it looks good on you. Don't believe you look great with purple lipstick unless you feel like you look great in purple lipstick. Let them help with the makeup, but you make the choices.
Whatever you expect,

don't expect sex from them.

They get all freaked out for some reason.
that they will try to push a lot of products on you-- go in w/ a list of what you really want %26amp; dont be afraid to say no!!!
